Restaurant Review - Dickson

A restaurant review that took into consideration how healthy the food was? Never!

Ever thought of a restaurant critic as a picture of health? Never!

How often do you really like what is recommended? Never!

I'm here to change all that...with my healthy restaurant reviews.

Lance's Review Of:

When it comes to eating healthfully at most DC wine bars, the glasses are definitely half empty. Washingtonians are usually left with stained teeth, big bills, and bigger bellies from all the cheese, simple carbs, salted meats and low quality vinos. That’s why I’m happy to report that at Dickson, your glass is not just half full, it’s overflowing!

No matter your tolerance you are sure to feel a buzz off the smooth and sensual surroundings of this U Street retreat. 3-stories of friend gathering, date happening,  and co-worker mingling good times. If that doesn’t get your night going right, knowing that all of their sparkling, whites, and reds are biodynamic, organic, or vegan definitely will. Remember there isn’t anything wrong with having a glass or two of wine every now and then, but guzzling the grapes and chowing down on calorie-dense foods is certainly going to bust you out of your Levis.

I was really impressed by the selection and variety of light and health-conscious options on the Dickson menu. What made it even better was that many of their ingredients come from local farms such as Hartland farm. Now that’s truly ‘eatin’ good in the neighborhood’. Make sure to try these delicious dishes:

Local beet salad with blue cheese and candied pecans  the deepest colored, freshest tasting beets are combined with organic greens and accompanied by just enough cheese and pecans to cure the sweet and savory cravings.

Ahi tuna tartare with avocado and cilantro soy vinaigrette – this filling and refreshing special is packed with protein, good fat, flavor, and lightly brought together with the perfect a cilantro soy vinaigrette.

Wild mushroom flatbread with organic greens, fresh mozzarella, and truffle oil the greens easily out number every ingredient on this fantastic flatbread. Super thin crust, robust mushrooms, and easy-on-the-cheese make this one flatbread not to diss or miss.

I had the best time at Dickson, its the kind of place that you walk to the table saying, ‘I can’t wait to come back here…’ and leave saying, ‘…tomorrow’. Do yourself and someone special a favor by dropping by Dickson for a world-class glass of wine and healthy bite to eat. If you don’t, people will know you’re obviously - drunk.
